Katana ZERO DLC has grown to the size of a full sequel, according to creator Justin Stander. The expanded project will also feature a soundtrack with more than 30 new songs. Stander shared the update on October 22, confirming that development is continuing. However, he did not announce a release date or launch window. (Developer’s announcement)

The DLC has grown beyond its original scope
Stander, who develops the game under Askiisoft, said the project had become much bigger. He described its current scale as comparable to a full sequel. The soundtrack will add more than 30 new tracks. The developer also promised further updates, giving fans more news to look forward to.

The announcement does not confirm whether the expansion will include new levels, bosses or gameplay mechanics beyond previously discussed content. More details are still needed to understand its final scope.

Katana ZERO DLC still has no release date
The expansion has been in development for years. Askiisoft previously said it planned to release the DLC for free. A March 2021 development update confirmed that the project had expanded to six times its originally planned size.

However, the latest announcement did not confirm whether the free-release plan remains unchanged. The developer has also yet to provide a launch window. (Askiisoft’s earlier development update)

Why the expansion matters to fans
Released in 2019, Katana ZERO is a fast-paced action platformer with a neo-noir setting. Players control a sword-wielding assassin and use time-manipulation abilities during combat. Its stylish presentation and challenging gameplay helped it build a dedicated audience.

The expanded DLC could offer a substantial return to the game’s world. For now, fans will have to wait for more details. Askiisoft says further updates are coming, but the release date remains unconfirmed.
