KRAFTON India has renamed its upcoming lightweight battle royale game BGMI LITE to BGMI Air after the title crossed 10 million pre-registrations ahead of its planned launch in India. The announcement marks a major milestone for the mobile gaming title, which aims to bring the Battlegrounds Mobile India experience to more smartphone users.

The company confirmed the new name and registration milestone on October 15, 2026, as anticipation builds for the game’s release. BGMI Air is designed to offer a lighter version of the existing BGMI experience, making it more accessible to players with limited device storage.

BGMI LITE becomes BGMI Air
KRAFTON India initially introduced the upcoming title as BGMI LITE. The company has now adopted the BGMI Air name while retaining the project’s original focus on a more accessible mobile gaming experience.

The rebranding does not indicate a completely new game concept. Instead, BGMI Air continues the plan to deliver the core Battlegrounds Mobile India experience through a lighter game build.

Pre-registrations cross 10 million
BGMI Air has surpassed 10 million pre-registrations on the Google Play Store in India, according to KRAFTON India. The milestone reflects strong interest in the upcoming title before its full release.

Pre-registrations began on August 25, 2026, when the game was still listed as BGMI LITE. Players who registered under the previous name do not need to register again simply because of the rebranding.

The figure represents pre-registrations rather than actual downloads or active players, as the game has not yet launched fully.

Open beta planned before launch
KRAFTON India has confirmed that an open beta is planned ahead of the full release. The testing phase will give players an opportunity to try the game and provide feedback before the developer rolls it out more widely.

However, the company has not announced an exact launch date. The game is planned for release in India later in 2026, with further details expected through its official channels.

What BGMI Air means for mobile gamers
A lighter game build could make the BGMI experience more accessible to players whose smartphones have limited storage capacity. This could help KRAFTON expand its reach among India’s diverse mobile gaming audience.

BGMI Air is expected to operate as a separate application from the existing BGMI game, allowing players to access the two titles independently.

With pre-registrations already exceeding 10 million, BGMI Air has generated considerable interest before launch. Its eventual reception will depend on gameplay quality, device compatibility and how effectively the lighter version delivers the experience players expect.
