Minecraft is coming to Nintendo Switch 2 on October 27, 2026, bringing improved graphics, enhanced lighting and a more detailed visual experience. Mojang has developed a native version that takes advantage of the newer console’s hardware.

The upgrade will introduce Vibrant Visuals as the default graphics setting. Players can expect improved shadows, more realistic water reflections and richer environments. The release also includes an updated Super Mario Mash-Up Pack.

Minecraft Switch 2 brings enhanced graphics
The new version uses the Nintendo Switch 2’s hardware to improve Minecraft’s visual presentation. Vibrant Visuals adds directional lighting, more detailed shadows and atmospheric effects.

Sunlight will create more natural shadows across the landscape. Water reflections and environmental lighting will also improve the appearance of Minecraft’s familiar block-based world.

However, Vibrant Visuals will not work in every situation. Nintendo says some split-screen gameplay and certain Marketplace worlds and content will not support the enhanced graphics.

Super Mario Mash-Up Pack gets an upgrade
The Switch 2 release includes the Super Mario Mash-Up Pack, an exclusive collection for Nintendo versions of Minecraft.

Players can explore Mario-inspired locations, including Peach’s Castle and Delfino Plaza. The pack also features themed music and character skins.

The new version will give supported content in the pack the benefits of Vibrant Visuals, bringing improved lighting and shadows to the Mario-themed world.

Can existing Minecraft players upgrade for free?
Nintendo Switch owners who already own the digital version of Minecraft can upgrade to the Switch 2 Standard Edition for free in most territories. The offer runs through January 2027, subject to regional terms.

Players can also choose the Deluxe Collection or Ultimate Collection at discounted prices during the promotional period. These editions include additional content and Minecoins.

Nintendo’s upgrade offer excludes some territories, so players should check the terms in their local Nintendo eShop before purchasing.
