Apple’s first foldable smartphone, the iPhone Duo, is already facing extended delivery estimates just hours after preorders opened on October 16, 2026. The development highlights early supply challenges surrounding the company’s entry into the foldable smartphone market.
According to The Verge, delivery estimates for online orders slipped to late January 2027 within less than an hour of preorders opening. TechRadar independently reported similar delays across storage configurations and colour options. The reports suggest that customers ordering now may have to wait several months to receive the device.
iPhone Duo delivery estimates slip
Apple opened preorders for the iPhone Duo at 8 a.m. Eastern Time on October 16. Initially, customers who ordered early were scheduled to receive their devices from October 23, when the smartphone is due to become available in stores.
However, delivery estimates quickly moved into the new year for later orders. The Verge reported that all configurations listed on Apple’s US website were showing late-January delivery estimates at the time of its report.
The delay could reflect strong initial demand, limited production capacity or a combination of both. Apple has not confirmed that the extended delivery timelines represent a specific level of sales.
What makes the iPhone Duo different?
The iPhone Duo marks Apple’s first entry into the foldable smartphone category. According to Apple’s official announcement, the device features a 7.6-inch inner display and a 5.4-inch outer display, combining a larger screen for multitasking with a compact design when folded.
The smartphone is powered by Apple’s A20 Pro chip and features a titanium construction with a precision-engineered hinge. It is designed to support activities such as gaming, video viewing and working across multiple apps.
In the United States, the iPhone Duo starts at $1,999 for the 256GB model. Apple is offering the device in Star White and Night Sky, with additional storage configurations available.
Can buyers still get the iPhone Duo sooner?
Customers can still place online preorders, although delivery estimates may vary by market, configuration and order timing. The Verge also noted that Apple typically reserves some units for in-store availability, meaning some customers might be able to find a device sooner at a retail location.
Apple has scheduled the iPhone Duo’s retail availability for October 23, 2026, including India. However, actual availability will depend on local stock and demand.
What the delays mean for Apple
The early delivery delays put the iPhone Duo’s launch under the spotlight as Apple enters a competitive foldable smartphone market. The device’s premium pricing and new form factor make its initial availability an important development for consumers and the wider smartphone industry.
Nevertheless, delivery estimates alone do not establish how many devices Apple has sold or whether the company has exceeded its sales expectations. Production constraints and limited launch inventory can also extend shipping timelines.
As the October 23 retail launch approaches, the availability of devices in stores and changes to online delivery estimates will provide further indications of how the launch is progressing.
