Microsoft has announced the Xbox Nano Controller, a compact wireless gamepad. The controller is scheduled to launch on 4 November 2026 in selected markets, with pre-orders already available.

Announced on 14 October, the Xbox Nano is Microsoft’s smallest controller to date. It is designed for younger players, people with smaller hands and gamers who want a portable controller for use across compatible devices. The announcement was published on the official Xbox Wire website.

Xbox Nano Controller features and design
The Xbox Nano Controller measures a little over five inches in length and weighs approximately 3.5 ounces (99 grams). Despite its compact design, it retains all 18 standard gameplay inputs found on a conventional Xbox controller.

Microsoft has included several features aimed at making the controller easier to carry and use.

  • Rechargeable battery: The controller has a built-in rechargeable battery.
  • Wireless connectivity: Xbox Wireless and Bluetooth support enable connections to compatible devices.
  • Programmable Action Button: Users can assign shortcuts for tasks such as taking screenshots and capturing gameplay.
  • USB-C charging: The controller includes a USB-C port for charging.

Its smaller form factor makes it easier to carry in a pocket or bag. Microsoft also positions it as an option for casual gaming and shared play at home.

Xbox Nano Controller release date
Microsoft has opened pre-orders through the Xbox website and selected retailers.

The release is scheduled for 4 November 2026, although pricing and availability may differ by country.

Microsoft’s announced launch markets include the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, China, Taiwan, Poland, Japan and Australia, among other countries. The company says additional markets will follow.

India is not included in the current list of launch markets. Microsoft has not confirmed an Indian release date in its announcement.

Microsoft expands Xbox gaming options
The Xbox Nano Controller adds a more portable option to Microsoft’s controller range. Its compatibility with consoles, computers and mobile devices also makes it relevant to players who switch between different gaming setups.

Microsoft is also working with Samsung on a US holiday offer that bundles the controller with two months of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate for new members purchasing selected Samsung televisions.

A separate US offer with Meta is planned for eligible Quest headset purchases. Both promotions are intended to make it easier for customers to access Xbox games through compatible devices and cloud gaming services.

The controller’s appeal will depend on its comfort, compatibility and performance in everyday use. Its November launch should provide a clearer picture of how the smaller design works for different types of players.
