BSNL ₹75000 crore funding is at the centre of the state-owned telecom operator’s latest expansion plans. Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) reportedly plans to seek ₹75,000 crore from the Finance Ministry. The proposed funding would help expand its 4G network, accelerate its 5G rollout and improve connectivity across India. Communications Today reported the development on October 27, 2026.

The funding proposal comes as BSNL strengthens its mobile network and prepares for wider 5G deployment. The company aims to improve coverage, enhance service quality and strengthen its position in India’s competitive telecom market.

BSNL ₹75000 crore funding proposal

According to Communications Today, BSNL plans to seek the money separately from its regular Budget allocation. The company needs substantial investment to expand its network and support its long-term technology plans.

The proposed funding could help BSNL accelerate infrastructure development. However, the government has not confirmed approval of the ₹75,000 crore request in the cited report. The proposal remains subject to the government’s decision.

BSNL plans further 4G tower expansion

BSNL continues to expand its 4G infrastructure to improve coverage across India. The report states that the company has installed around one lakh mobile towers and placed orders for another 25,000 towers.

The company also plans to install an additional 50,000 towers. This expansion would help strengthen its network and prepare the infrastructure for future upgrades.

Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia has previously discussed plans to add another 50,000 to 60,000 mobile towers. These additions could help BSNL improve connectivity in underserved areas and strengthen its services for existing customers.

Previous government support for BSNL

The proposed BSNL ₹75000 crore funding request follows several government-backed revival measures. The government approved three major revival packages in 2019, 2022 and 2023. Their combined value reportedly reached ₹3.29 lakh crore.

In 2025, the government also approved ₹6,982 crore in additional capital expenditure support for BSNL’s 4G rollout. These measures have supported network modernisation and the company’s broader financial recovery efforts.

BSNL has also reported improvements in its business performance. According to Communications Today, the company recorded ₹4,418 crore in revenue from operations during the first quarter of FY2026-27. That represented a 10% increase compared with the same quarter a year earlier.

Growth in its enterprise and consumer mobility businesses contributed to the improvement.

How BSNL ₹75000 crore funding could support 5G

If the government approves the proposed funding, BSNL could gain additional resources to expand its network and accelerate its 5G plans. The investment could also support infrastructure upgrades and improvements in service quality.

For customers, the potential benefits include wider coverage and better connectivity. However, the actual impact would depend on funding approval, deployment schedules and the pace of network expansion.

BSNL has not received confirmed approval for the proposed ₹75,000 crore in the cited report. The next steps will depend on the government’s decision and the company’s implementation plans.
