Apex Legends Cipher, the game’s upcoming Season 31 update, launches on November 3, 2026. Respawn Entertainment has revealed several gameplay changes, including a major Crypto rework, the new Akimbo Wingman and Strongholds.
The update also introduces changes to Revenant and Lifeline. Additionally, Ranked mode will receive a new Legend Ban system for higher-ranked matches.
Crypto receives a major gameplay rework
One of the biggest changes in Apex Legends Cipher focuses on Crypto. The character is receiving a firmware upgrade designed to encourage more active gameplay.
His Surveillance Drone will now operate using a battery instead of a traditional cooldown. The drone has a 25-second battery and automatically returns when its power runs out.
Furthermore, the drone gains a new Sentry Mode. It can identify and mark enemies within its view, helping teammates gather important battlefield information.
Crypto’s EMP Ultimate also receives improvements. Players can now activate it more directly, reducing the steps required to deploy the ability.
Akimbo Wingman introduces dual-wielded pistols
Apex Legends is introducing the Akimbo Wingman in the Cipher update. The new weapon allows players to wield two Wingman revolvers simultaneously.
Unlike traditional dual-wielded weapons, the Akimbo Wingman uses a sequential firing system. Each trigger pull fires both revolvers one after another.
The addition brings a new option to the game’s weapon lineup. It also introduces another weapon to the existing Akimbo system.
Strongholds bring high-risk, high-reward loot
Strongholds are another major addition arriving with Apex Legends Cipher.
These new locations function as high-value loot objectives during matches. Players can raid them to collect crate weapons, corrupted attachments and EVO for their squads.
However, opening a Stronghold takes time and triggers an alarm. This reveals the squad’s location to nearby opponents.
As a result, teams must balance the potential rewards against the risk of attracting enemy squads.
Strongholds also feature cover and Hardlight structures. These provide additional opportunities for teams to defend their positions during raids.
Revenant and Lifeline receive gameplay buffs
Respawn is also updating Revenant and Lifeline to improve their abilities.
Revenant receives a shorter Ultimate cooldown and a faster Tactical ability. His new upgrades also introduce additional combat advantages.
Meanwhile, Lifeline receives several improvements to her support abilities. These include a reduced D.O.C. cooldown, self-healing while gliding and additional protection when reviving teammates.
The changes aim to give both characters more opportunities to contribute during combat.
Ranked mode introduces Legend Bans
Apex Legends Cipher also brings a new Legend Ban system to Ranked matches.
The feature applies to Diamond lobbies and higher. Each player gets one vote to ban a Legend before a match.
Legends receiving more votes will have a greater chance of being banned. This could encourage teams to prepare alternative character combinations.
Apex Legends Cipher release date and platforms
Apex Legends Cipher launches on November 3, 2026.
The update will be available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC through Steam, Epic Games Store and the EA App.
