The JioStar Q2 results for FY27 show a 13.2% year-on-year decline in net profit, despite continued revenue growth. The media and entertainment company reported a profit after tax (PAT) of ₹1,147 crore for the September quarter.

However, gross revenue increased 9.8% to ₹7,944 crore from ₹7,232 crore in the corresponding quarter last year. Meanwhile, revenue from operations grew 10.1% to ₹6,806 crore.

JioStar Q2 results show subscription and advertising growth

JioStar attributed its revenue growth to strong subscription income and digital entertainment advertising.

However, higher revenue did not translate into stronger profitability. The company’s quarterly profit declined despite increased digital engagement and subscription growth.

JioStar operates across television broadcasting, digital streaming and sports entertainment. It was formed following the merger of Reliance Industries’ media business and Disney’s India operations.

JioHotstar monthly users reach 440 million

JioHotstar averaged 440 million monthly active users during the September quarter. This represents a 10% year-on-year increase.

Additionally, entertainment watch time on the streaming platform grew by more than 15%. Growth was driven by strong performance across Hindi and regional markets.

The platform also expanded its international presence during the quarter. It relaunched and rebranded JioHotstar in Singapore, the United Kingdom and Canada.

Following the relaunch, active subscriber volumes across these markets increased by 30%, according to the company.

Sports content drives JioHotstar engagement

Sports remained an important part of JioStar’s digital strategy during the quarter.

The company’s portfolio included the England-India cricket series, Wimbledon, the US Open and the Premier League.

According to JioStar, the England-India series became its biggest-ever bilateral overseas series in terms of digital viewership.

Meanwhile, Wimbledon 2026 and the US Open 2026 recorded stable viewership alongside stronger monetisation.

JioStar also expanded commerce integrations beyond cricket. These initiatives now cover properties such as Wimbledon, the US Open and the Premier League.

What the JioStar Q2 results mean for its streaming business

The latest JioStar Q2 results highlight the company’s growing digital reach. Its streaming platform continues to attract audiences through entertainment, regional programming and major sporting events.

However, the decline in quarterly profit remains an important development. Despite higher revenue and user engagement, the company will need to strengthen profitability as competition in India’s streaming market intensifies.

Going forward, subscription growth, digital advertising and sports monetisation will remain important areas to watch.
