Omron India factory operations have officially begun, marking a major development for India’s medical-device manufacturing sector. Japan’s Omron Healthcare has started full-scale production of blood pressure monitors at its first manufacturing facility in Chennai, Tamil Nadu.

The announcement came on October 30, 2026. The new facility will initially serve the Indian market. However, Omron also plans to develop Chennai into a manufacturing base for international markets.

Omron’s Chennai factory begins blood pressure monitor production

The new facility operates under OMRON Healthcare Manufacturing India Pvt. Ltd. It is located at ORIGINS by Mahindra in Tamil Nadu.

Spread across approximately 24,000 square metres, the factory has five production lines. It will manufacture several blood pressure monitor models for Indian consumers.

The initial product lineup includes three series:

  • HEM-7090: A standard upper-arm blood pressure monitor designed for easy home use.
  • HEM-7181: A monitor featuring a Trend Indicator and measurement memory.
  • HEM-7183T: A connected monitor with Bluetooth support and OMRON Connect app integration.

Additionally, the company has introduced different models to address varying consumer needs and price expectations.

Omron plans to expand production capacity tenfold by 2028

The company plans to increase the Chennai factory’s production capacity tenfold by 2028.

According to Reuters, Omron is targeting annual production of approximately three million blood pressure monitors by that year.

Furthermore, the company plans to explore additional manufacturing opportunities. These include nebulizers used to support respiratory treatments, including asthma care.

Omron also intends to develop Chennai as a supply base for international markets. This could strengthen India’s role in the company’s global manufacturing network.

India’s growing demand for blood pressure monitors

Omron’s manufacturing expansion comes amid significant cardiovascular health challenges in India.

The company estimates that approximately 300 million people in India live with hypertension. However, fewer than 5% of households regularly use home blood pressure monitors.

Consequently, the company sees considerable potential for expanding access to home monitoring devices.

According to Reuters, Omron aims to increase household penetration of home blood pressure monitors to approximately 10% by 2030.

The company also held around 40% of India’s blood pressure monitor market in 2025, based on its own data.

Factory supports India’s Make in India initiative

The new manufacturing facility will support India’s Make in India initiative through local component sourcing, workforce development and employment creation.

Omron has introduced production technologies and quality-control practices developed at its facilities in Japan and Vietnam.

As a result, the company aims to maintain the same measurement accuracy and quality standards as its medical devices supplied to international markets.

The facility is also expected to strengthen the company’s supply chain and reduce its reliance on manufacturing concentrated in other countries.

Omron strengthens its long-term India healthcare strategy

Omron Healthcare has operated in India since 2010. The company has since expanded its activities across home healthcare monitoring and preventive healthcare awareness.

The Chennai factory represents another step in its long-term India strategy.

Meanwhile, the company plans to expand its manufacturing capabilities and explore additional healthcare products. Its international supply ambitions could also create new opportunities for India’s medical-device manufacturing industry.

With production now underway, Omron’s next major milestone will be expanding capacity by 2028.
